Foar de floed
A photographic printing technique sensitive to light and time capture the landscape and watermouvement. This acts as a direct translation of nature: the force of the sea, the power of the sun, the moment of touch.
For the Floed is a search for traces of time, nature, and humans in the landscape. From the perspective of my direct living environment, a terp in Wommels, which is a historic, artificial mound against rising water, I explore our relationship as humans with the elements that shape, threaten, and connect us: sand, wind, water.
The landscape is not as a still image, but as a moment in motion. The patterns wind draws in sand, the waves that come and go, the ebb pulling away, the flood pushing in. The prints remaining are, literally and figuratively speaking at the edge of land and water.
With a photographic process sensitive to light and time, I capture the landscape and water movements. The cyanotype like uv-paint acts as a direct translation of nature, of the sea, the sun’s power, and the moment of contact.
